Culinary Delights of Vientiane

For most travelers, local food forms lasting memories from a trip to Southeast Asia. Lao food shares many characteristics with the more famous flavors of neighboring Thailand, but also combines them with influences from approximately 160 different ethnic groups who contribute to the complex ethnology of Laos.

This tour starts in the mid-afternoon and runs in to the evening. The focus is on food, but the tour also provides  a fascinating insight in to the culture of Vientiane and Laos as a whole.

DAY BY DAY ITINERARY
At 16:45

A private guide and driver will pick up guests from their hotel at 16:45 for the short drive to Full Moon Café to begin the first experience of the day.

Then, travel to a nice garden on the Mekong River where guests will begin the preparations for dinner. It is a good way to learn more about the Lao culture, traditional cooking, original ingredients and the secrets of making perfect sticky rice!

At 16:45
At 17:00

The experienced chef will begin the cooking class at 17:00. Guests will use traditional Lao cooking implements to create a variety of dishes, and can customize each dish to their own taste.
There is no need to take notes because guests will be given their own Lao recipe booklet to take home, enabling them to recreate their favorites and remember their time in Laos for years to come.

At 17:00
At 19:00

At around 19:00 it will be time to relax and enjoy the self-prepared feast. Local desserts will also be on offer, although guests will probably not make them as the savory dishes tend to be most popular. Tea, coffee and local herbal cocktails (non-alcoholic) are included.

At 19:00
At 20:00

It will be time to say farewell to the team at around 20:00 and take a leisurely walking tour with the guide. Stroll through Chao Anou Park and the night market, observing locals and taking in the views. Both are set on the banks of the Mekong and this area is most appealing at night. Adventurous foodies can sample a huge range of local snacks along the way, with the guide on hand to explain what guests are eating (or they might not want to know!). The guide can also recommend places to end the day with a drink. Options include chic wine bars and lively karaoke bars which are popular with locals, or guests might prefer to simply pull up a plastic chair and enjoy a Beer Lao on the street (drinks and snacks are not included).

At 20:00
At 21:00

Guests can be transferred back to their hotel at around 21:00, or they might prefer to be dropped off at one of our recommended bars to continue the night.
