Information about the currency in each destination you can find in the section DESTINATION on our website. Please refer to this for an idea on budgets. Travellers’ cheques are not common practice anymore so it is a good idea to travel with a credit card and ATM card. Having a couple of options will assure that you are covered if one doesn’t work. In certain countries it comes down to potluck if you can withdraw money. One day it’ll work, the next it won’t, but it will work for your friend… Go figure! Visa cards are more widely accepted than Mastercard.
We always recommend that passengers check with their local embassy as visa rules can change without warning. Embassy websites in your home country will always have information about requirements, visa costs and will provide the required forms. If you are uncomfortable with the visa process, you can request and we can arrange these for you at a cost. For more visa information about Vietnam, please read the information here
Travel Insurance is insurance that is intended to cover medical expenses and financial (such as money invested in nonrefundable pre-payments) and other losses incurred while traveling, either within one’s own country, or internationally. Travel insurance often offers coverage for a variety of travelers. Student travel, business travel, leisure travel, adventure travel, cruise travel, and international travel are all various options that can be insured.
The most common risks that are covered by travel insurance are:
The travel insurance is compulsory for traveler who makes booking with us according to local authority’s policy.
Regarding your travel insurance, if you wish we can undertake contacting your insurance company on your behalf in the very unlikely event of your needing to make a claim and being unable to notify them yourself. If this would be helpful, please let me know your insurance company’s contact details and the reference number of your policy.
I expect you’ve already attended to it, but just in case, don’t forget your medical precautions and vaccinations. It’s important to visit a doctor or a specialist travel clinic as early as possible before your flight to Vietnam to allow time for any side-effects of the recommended courses of vaccinations to settle down.
While we take all the precautions we can to make sure your belongings are safe, we are travelling to some exciting destinations that are sometimes home to some pretty skilled thieves. Travel insurance is a must and a lockable bag or money belt will always help too.
We recommend having access to money from a variety of sources – cash, cards and travel money cards are all commonly used. Check your Notes and the relevant Destination Page on our website for more country-specific information.
Our leaders are trained to deal with these situations and we will endeavor to get you help as quickly as possible. If you must leave the trip early due to illness, our local offices will help you find appropriate medical care and ensure someone at home is aware of the situation. We will do whatever we can to get you home or on your onward journey. Your travel insurance, which is compulsory on all our trips, should cover any costs incurred if illness occurs.
We generally advise against taking cyclos at night unless they are registered with a hotel. Taxis are safe and metered provided you use a reputable company. To assist in finding your way back to your hotel, make sure you obtain a hotel address card, to show drivers where you want to go.
We advise you to use bottled water, even to clean your teeth. Always wash your hands thoroughly, particularly after handling local money. Ensure meats are thoroughly cooked. It is not necessary to avoid salads and herbs out of hand but remember uncooked foods do carry a greater risk. In general, establishments that cater to Western tourists make their own ice on the premises from bottled water. Elsewhere, ice is made from filtered water that is delivered in blocks from local factories. If in doubt as to the origin of ice, it’s a good idea to ask.
On most of the trips you will be required to carry your own luggage, sometimes upstairs and on and off transport. We therefore recommend you travel with a backpack. For a full list of what to take on your adventure, please download our Ultimate Packing List below.
Most starting point hotels can store your excess luggage for you; however, this is at your own risk. Often a nominal fee is charged for this service. Of course, this is only an advantage if your trip is circular (i.e. returning to the same starting point).
Check-in times can vary from hotel to hotel and region to region. Generally, they are between midday and 2pm. If you do arrive earlier, you’ll be able to store your luggage with the hotel and head out to explore for a couple of hours.
We can’t confirm an early check-in for sure, but our sales team can assist in booking you a night of pre accommodation at the same hotel. Normally, some hotels offer early check-in with a half charge if the room is free the day before. If you don’t wish to pay for the extra night, you can try your luck locally (they may let you in early if the room is free) or you can store your luggage.
For Online Customized Tours airport transfers are not included, ExoAsia will pick up you at some specified hotels or at the meeting point. To get to and from airport, you can easily take a taxi.

Please note that Hotel pick-up is applicable for the selected hotels which are shown on our dropdown menu in the booking process only. Please check the Important Information section of your voucher for the exact information.
We will try our best to organize a pick up however most tour operators do not pick up from private residences. Eventually, you can provide the nearest major hotel to where you are staying that belongs to our hotel pick up list, and enter these details as the address information in your booking request. Alternatively you can make your way to the main starting point listed in the Product Details section, on the tour information page.
The activities including pick up generally include drop off at the starting point. Please check the complete description of the tour, and the "Includes" and "Excludes" sections on the tour information page.
Most online customized tours or activities do not offer airport pick ups. If a tour does offer airport pick ups, this information will be listed in the Product Details section, on the tour information page. If you need pick up at the airport, this can eventually be organized as a special request for an additional cost. Please contact ExoAsia. Eventually you will need to make your way to the main meeting point listed in the Product Details section, on the tour information page or to choose a pick up hotel you can get to, if the tour or activity includes hotel pick up.
Absolutely. If there are included or optional activities that you don’t wish to participate in, you can do your own thing instead. The exception to this is when we are trekking or travelling from one destination to the next. Please note that if you choose to opt out of an included activity, no reimbursement can be made.
The beauty of travelling with ExoAsia is that we encourage travelers to explore at their own pace. When you get to a destination, your leader will offer options on what you can do. Some of the group will do one activity, others will opt for something completely different while others may just choose to lie in a hammock and read a book.
Most trips have regular access to western toilets while others don't – it just depends on the areas you’re travelling in. As a general rule, the more remote the place the less likely you are to find western bathroom facilities.
Along the way there are usually chances to do laundry, either through your hotel or using local services. Your leader will be able to let you know once you are on the trip.
The standard of accommodation depends on the Trip Style you have chosen.
Please refer to detailed itinerary for hotel names. The hotel names listed on the detailed itinerary are normally the hotel accommodation that you will be staying at. The hotels may change depending on hotel availability, size of group and many other factors. We try to arrange all of our customers to stay at the same hotel. However, sometimes we will not know until 1 to 2 days before departure date. Please trust us that we will guarantee to arrange hotels similar in quality to the ones listed on the detailed itinerary for you. You may contact our office 1 to 2 days before departure for the final hotel information.
Communication facilities are always improving globally. Many hotels and public places have Wi-Fi so it’s usually possible to keep in touch with home every couple of days, if you so desire. In remote places or on treks or homestays, you will not be able to communicate as readily. Your leader will usually give you the heads up before you leave a place so you can send a quick email or two. Phone cards are easy to get your hands on; just make sure your phone is unlocked before you travel. Or in many countries, the cheapest way to make a phone call is at an internet cafe.
If family and friends are unable to contact you in an emergency through email or phone, they can contact ExoAsia directly we can pass on a message if required. Emergency contact details (for your destination) are listed in your Trip Notes.
We can never guarantee your phone will work as desired, as many of our destinations are out of the way and you may have limited coverage. Chat to your phone provider before you leave about global roaming and the costs involved, and get their advice on the coverage you’ll receive in the places you’re travelling in. Alternatively, you can usually pick up a local sim card on the cheap (just make sure you phone is unlocked!).
Some places have Wi-Fi hot spots everywhere and other places will have no coverage at all. If you stumble into the latter, take the rare chance to just sit back and get to know your fellow travelers the old-fashioned way.
In most places you’ll be able to recharge your appliances at the hotel. We recommend you bring a travel adapter with you. On our Overland trips, most vehicles come with their own power supply and you should be able to recharge onboard. Be sure to bring an extra camera battery just in case.
The type of transport used depends on your group size: Sedan of 04 seats for max. 2 pax, Van of 16 seats for max. 6 pax, Mini Bus of 29 seats for max. 16 pax, Big Bus of 45 seats for max. 40 pax. See your Trip Details for the specific type of transportation used on your journey.

Your guide will introduce all the optional tours to you during the trip. And you may choose to participate in the optional tours depending on your preference. Once you decide which optional tours you are willing to join, you will only need to pay the optional tour fees to your guide. Please consult with your tour guide about the optional tours during your trip.
Yes, in most places tipping is expected. At your welcome meeting, ask your leader about the local custom and advice on how much is recommended at restaurants or with local guides. At the end of your trip, if you're happy with the service you received, providing a tip for the leader - though not compulsory - is appropriate. While it may not be customary to you, it's of great significance to the people who will take care of you during your travels, inspires excellent service, and is an entrenched feature of the tourism industry across many ExoAsia’s destinations.
